About this exercise

A unilateral lower-body compound exercise performed on a plate-loaded lever machine in the Bulgarian split squat stance, with the rear foot elevated. The lever machine provides a guided range of motion to help focus the load on the front leg's quadriceps and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Load the desired weight plates onto the machine and secure them
  • Stand facing the machine's lever arm with your back to the rear foot pad
  • Elevate your rear foot onto the pad with the top of the foot resting against it
  • Step the front foot forward enough so the front knee stays over the toes throughout the movement
  • Grip the machine handles for balance and keep your torso upright
  • Brace your core and lower your hips straight down until the front thigh is parallel to the floor
  • Drive through the heel of the front foot to press back up to the starting position
