About this exercise

The belt squat Romanian deadlift uses the belt squat machine to perform a hip-hinge movement that deeply loads the hamstrings and glutes with zero spinal compression. The belt attachment allows a more upright torso compared to barbell RDLs, making it an excellent option for athletes managing lower back fatigue.

How to Perform

  • Fasten the belt around your hips on the machine and stand with feet hip-width apart, toes pointing forward
  • Soften your knees slightly and keep your chest tall throughout the movement
  • Hinge at your hips, pushing them backward while lowering your torso toward the floor
  • Keep your back in a neutral position and feel a deep stretch building in your hamstrings
  • Stop just before your lower back begins to round, typically when your torso is near parallel to the floor
  • Drive your hips forward to return to standing, squeezing your glutes firmly at the top
