About this exercise

The lever assisted neutral grip chin up uses a counter-weighted machine to reduce the amount of bodyweight you lift, making it ideal for building pull-up strength progressively. The neutral (palms facing each other) grip reduces wrist and shoulder stress compared to supinated or pronated grips. It targets the lats and biceps effectively.

How to Perform

  • Set the counter-weight pad to the desired assistance level and kneel or stand on the platform
  • Grip the parallel handles with a neutral grip (palms facing each other), hands shoulder-width apart
  • Hang at full arm extension with your shoulders packed down and away from your ears
  • Pull your elbows down and back, driving your chest toward the handles
  • Continue pulling until your chin clears the bar or the handles reach chin level
  • Pause briefly at the top, squeezing your lats
  • Lower yourself in a controlled manner back to full arm extension
  • Complete all reps before stepping off the platform
