About this exercise

The Lever Alternate Leg Press is a plate-loaded unilateral leg exercise performed on a horizontal leg press machine, alternating between left and right legs with each rep. This single-leg approach helps correct strength imbalances and increases the demand on stabilising muscles compared to a standard bilateral press.

How to Perform

  • Load the machine with the appropriate weight plates and sit in the seat with your back flat against the pad
  • Place both feet on the platform at shoulder width, then shift weight to one leg
  • Unlock the safety and lower the platform by bending the working knee to approximately 90 degrees
  • Press through the heel of the working leg to fully extend, without locking the knee
  • At the top, shift the load to the opposite leg and lower under control
  • Continue alternating legs for the desired number of reps
  • Re-engage the safety before exiting the machine
