Lever Alternate Leg Extension (plate loaded)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lever Alternate Leg Extension (plate loaded).

MediumQuadriceps

About this exercise

The lever alternate leg extension trains one leg at a time in an alternating fashion on a plate-loaded leg extension machine. This unilateral approach helps correct strength imbalances between legs while maintaining continuous tension on the quadriceps throughout the set. The plate-loaded lever arm provides a smooth, guided resistance curve.

How to Perform

  • Load the appropriate weight plates onto the machine
  • Sit upright with your back against the pad and both ankles hooked under the roller
  • Extend one leg fully by contracting the quadriceps, reaching lockout at the top
  • Lower that leg under control without fully releasing tension
  • Immediately extend the opposite leg in a smooth alternating rhythm
  • Keep your hips firmly pressed against the seat throughout the movement
  • Continue alternating for the target number of repetitions per leg
