About this exercise

The lateral tap in squat position is a dynamic lower-body exercise that keeps you in a constant squat while alternately tapping each foot out to the side. It challenges the quads, glutes, and hip stability while building endurance and coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and lower into a squat position, keeping your chest up and knees tracking over your toes
  • Shift your weight onto your right foot and tap your left foot out to the left side, then return it to the center
  • Immediately shift your weight to your left foot and tap your right foot out to the right side
  • Continue alternating lateral taps while staying low in the squat throughout
  • Keep your core braced and avoid letting your hips rise as you tap
  • Maintain a controlled pace and a neutral spine for the duration of the set
