About this exercise

The landmine squat and press is a compound exercise that pairs a squat with a single-arm or double-arm overhead press using a barbell anchored in a landmine attachment. The angled barbell path makes it a joint-friendly alternative to traditional overhead presses while still challenging the quads, glutes, and shoulders together.

How to Perform

  • Anchor a barbell in a landmine attachment and load the free end with weight
  • Stand facing the landmine, feet shoulder-width apart, and hold the end of the barbell at chest height with both hands
  • Brace your core and squat down until thighs are roughly parallel to the floor, keeping your chest up
  • Drive through your heels to stand, using the momentum to press the bar overhead along its natural arc
  • Fully extend your arms at the top, then lower the bar back to chest height with control
  • Maintain an upright torso and neutral spine throughout the movement
