Landmine Romanian Deadlift

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Landmine Romanian Deadlift.

MediumGlutesLower back

About this exercise

A hip-hinge movement using a barbell anchored in a landmine attachment. The angled barbell arc reduces shear force on the lower back while effectively targeting the hamstrings and glutes, making it a joint-friendly alternative to the conventional Romanian deadlift.

How to Perform

  • Load the barbell and secure one end in a landmine attachment on the floor
  • Stand facing the landmine with feet hip-width apart, holding the bar end with both hands
  • Maintain a slight bend in the knees and a neutral spine throughout the movement
  • Hinge at the hips, pushing them back as you lower the bar along its arc
  • Lower until you feel a deep stretch in your hamstrings
  • Drive your hips forward to return to standing, squeezing your glutes at the top
  • Keep the bar close to your body and avoid rounding your lower back
