About this exercise

The Landmine Overhead Rear Lunge combines a unilateral lower-body lunge with an overhead hold of the angled barbell, challenging stability, coordination, and single-leg strength simultaneously. Pressing the bar overhead activates the shoulder and core while the rear lunge targets the quads and glutes. This compound movement is effective for developing athletic strength and balance.

How to Perform

  • Set up a landmine attachment and load the free end of the barbell
  • Stand facing the bar and press the loaded end overhead with one hand or both hands, arms extended
  • Step one foot back into a rear lunge, lowering your back knee toward the floor
  • Keep the bar steady overhead throughout the descent and ascent
  • Drive through your front heel to return to standing
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
  • Maintain a tall, braced torso and avoid leaning excessively to either side
