About this exercise

The kneeling to standing squat is a functional bodyweight movement that trains the ability to rise from the floor to a standing position under control. It develops lower-body strength, hip mobility, and balance by transitioning between a kneeling and a squat stance.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a tall kneeling position with knees hip-width apart and hips extended
  • Step one foot forward to place it flat on the floor, forming a half-kneeling position
  • Drive through the front foot and bring the rear knee off the ground to rise into a squat stance
  • Stand fully upright, squeezing the glutes at the top
  • Reverse the movement by stepping back into a half-kneeling position
  • Lower the rear knee to the ground and return to the tall kneeling start position
  • Alternate the leading leg each rep or complete a full set per side
