About this exercise

A kneeling thoracic spine rotation drill that improves upper back mobility and posture. By stabilizing the hips in the kneeling position, the movement isolates rotation to the thoracic spine rather than compensating through the lumbar spine.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on the floor with both knees hip-width apart, sitting back on your heels or in a tall-kneeling position
  • Place one hand behind your head and the other on the floor or your knee for support
  • Rotate your upper back and elbow toward the ceiling, opening your chest to the side
  • Reach as far as comfortable, feeling a stretch through your mid-back
  • Hold briefly at end range, then rotate back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
