About this exercise

A floor-based hip mobility and glute activation exercise performed on all fours, where one leg sweeps out to the side before extending into a full kick. The movement trains hip abduction, external rotation, and glute strength while challenging core stability throughout.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours with hands directly under shoulders and knees under hips
  • Engage your core to stabilize your spine and keep your hips level
  • Lift one knee out to the side, keeping it bent at 90 degrees (fire hydrant position)
  • From the side-lifted position, extend the leg fully outward into a straight kick
  • Hold briefly at full extension with the leg parallel to the floor
  • Bend the knee back and return the leg to the side-lifted position, then lower to the start
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
