About this exercise

A compound bodyweight movement that combines a kneeling push-up with a transition into a hovering table-top position, where the knees lift slightly off the ground. The push-up phase works the chest and triceps, while the table-top hover challenges the core and shoulder stability. Together they form an effective bodyweight strength and control drill.

How to Perform

  • Begin on all fours with knees on the floor, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width, and body in a straight line from knees to head
  • Lower your chest toward the floor by bending your elbows to perform a kneeling push-up
  • Press back up to the starting position
  • From the all-fours position, engage your core and lift both knees a few centimetres off the floor to enter the hovering table-top position
  • Hold the hover briefly, keeping your back flat and hips level
  • Lower your knees back to the floor with control
  • That completes one repetition; continue at a steady pace
