About this exercise

The kneeling plank is a beginner-friendly core stability exercise performed on the knees and forearms instead of the toes, reducing the total bodyweight load. It trains anti-extension strength of the core and builds the foundational tension required for progressing to a full plank.

How to Perform

  • Start by kneeling on the floor, then lower your forearms to the ground with elbows directly under your shoulders
  • Walk your knees back until your body forms a straight line from knees to head
  • Squeeze your glutes and brace your core to prevent your hips from sagging or rising
  • Keep your neck neutral and gaze slightly forward of your hands
  • Hold the position for the desired duration, breathing steadily throughout
  • Lower your hips to the floor to release the position
