About this exercise

The Kneeling Ankle Stretch improves ankle dorsiflexion mobility by driving the knee forward over the foot in a half-kneeling position. Improved ankle mobility reduces injury risk and enhances performance in squatting and lunging movements.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on the floor with one knee down and the opposite foot flat on the ground in front of you
  • Position your front foot close enough to your body so the knee sits directly above the ankle
  • Place your hands on your front knee for balance and support
  • Slowly shift your weight forward, driving your front knee past your toes toward the floor
  • Keep your front heel pressed firmly into the ground throughout the stretch
  • Hold the deepest comfortable position and feel the stretch in your ankle and lower calf
  • Return to the start and switch sides after completing all reps on one leg
