About this exercise

The Kickstand Reach Lat Lean is a standing unilateral stretch that targets the latissimus dorsi and obliques. By adopting a staggered kickstand stance and reaching the arm overhead while leaning laterally, you create a deep stretch along the side of the torso. It is an excellent warm-up or cool-down drill to improve lateral flexibility and thoracic mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet staggered in a kickstand position, one foot forward and the other slightly behind
  • Raise the arm on the side you want to stretch straight overhead
  • Lean your torso laterally away from the raised arm, keeping your hips stable
  • Reach through the fingertips to deepen the stretch along your lat and oblique
  • Hold the stretch for the desired duration, breathing steadily
  • Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side
