About this exercise

A variation of the upright row using a wide grip on a kettlebell, which shifts emphasis toward the lateral deltoids and reduces trapezius involvement compared to a narrow grip. The wider elbow flare increases the range of motion at the shoulder joint.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell by the sides of the handle or with a wide grip
  • Keep your feet shoulder-width apart and chest tall
  • Pull the kettlebell upward, allowing your elbows to travel wide and high to the sides
  • Raise until your upper arms are roughly parallel to the floor or slightly above
  • Keep the movement controlled and avoid using momentum
  • Lower the kettlebell slowly back to the starting position
