About this exercise

The kettlebell upright row targets the lateral deltoids and upper trapezius by pulling the kettlebell vertically up the front of the body to chin height. The kettlebell's offset handle allows a slightly more natural wrist position compared to a barbell, reducing stress on the shoulder joint.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a kettlebell in front of your thighs with both hands, palms facing your body
  • Brace your core and keep your chest up
  • Pull the kettlebell straight up along your torso, leading with your elbows
  • Raise until your elbows reach shoulder height and the kettlebell is near chin level
  • Pause briefly at the top, keeping your elbows above your wrists
  • Lower the kettlebell back to the starting position in a controlled manner
