About this exercise

The kettlebell Turkish get-up is a complex unilateral movement that takes you from lying on the floor to a standing position — and back — while keeping a kettlebell locked out overhead. The squat-style variation uses a squat to rise from the kneeling position, emphasising leg drive and hip mobility.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with a kettlebell pressed overhead in one hand, arm fully extended toward the ceiling
  • Bend the knee on the same side as the kettlebell and place that foot flat on the floor
  • Push up onto the opposite elbow, then onto the opposite hand, keeping the kettlebell locked out
  • Lift your hips off the floor and sweep the straight leg under you into a half-kneeling position
  • From the half-kneel, drive through both feet to stand up fully while the kettlebell remains overhead
  • Reverse the sequence: step back into the half-kneel, lower your hand to the floor, sweep the leg through, and descend to the lying position
  • Keep your eyes on the kettlebell throughout the entire movement
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
