About this exercise

The kettlebell suitcase hold is a unilateral static carry exercise in which you hold a kettlebell at your side like a suitcase while standing tall. The asymmetric load challenges the obliques and deep core stabilizers to resist lateral flexion, building anti-lateral-flexion strength that transfers directly to real-world carrying.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and hold a kettlebell in one hand at your side with arm fully extended
  • Keep your torso completely upright — do not lean toward or away from the weight
  • Engage your core and obliques on the opposite side to resist the pull of the kettlebell
  • Keep your shoulder on the weighted side packed down, not shrugged
  • Breathe steadily and maintain a neutral spine for the full duration
  • Keep your free hand relaxed or lightly resting on your hip
  • Switch sides after the hold is complete
