About this exercise

The kettlebell standing calf raise is a simple weighted calf exercise performed holding a kettlebell at your side. The added load increases the challenge over a bodyweight calf raise, helping to build strength and size in the gastrocnemius and soleus.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell in one or both hands at your sides
  • Position the balls of your feet on the edge of a step or a weight plate for added range of motion, or perform flat on the floor
  • Push through the balls of your feet and raise your heels as high as possible
  • Pause briefly at the top and squeeze your calves
  • Lower your heels back down slowly to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
