About this exercise

The kettlebell single leg split squat is a unilateral lower body exercise that targets the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings while challenging balance and core stability. Holding a kettlebell adds resistance to intensify the movement compared to the bodyweight version.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a staggered stance with one foot approximately two strides in front of the other
  • Hold a kettlebell in one or both hands at your sides, or in a goblet position at chest height
  • Keep your torso upright and core engaged throughout the movement
  • Lower your back knee toward the floor by bending both knees to approximately 90 degrees
  • Ensure your front knee tracks over your toes and does not cave inward
  • Push through your front heel to drive back up to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching sides
