About this exercise

The Kettlebell Side Lunge is a unilateral lower-body exercise that targets the quadriceps and glutes while demanding significant adductor mobility. Holding a kettlebell at chest height or in a goblet position, you step laterally and sink into one leg, keeping the other straight. This movement builds leg strength, hip stability, and inner thigh flexibility simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell at your chest in a goblet grip, feet hip-width apart
  • Take a wide step to one side, pointing your toes forward or slightly outward
  • Shift your weight onto the stepping leg, bending that knee and pushing your hips back as you lower
  • Keep the opposite leg straight and your chest tall throughout the descent
  • Lower until your thigh is roughly parallel to the floor or as mobility allows
  • Drive through the heel of the bent leg to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching, or alternate sides each rep
