About this exercise

The kettlebell seated one arm military press isolates each shoulder independently while the seated position eliminates leg drive, ensuring the deltoids and triceps perform all the work. The strict upright torso also trains scapular stability and prevents the lateral lean that can occur with standing unilateral pressing.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench or the floor with feet flat, spine tall, and core braced
  • Clean the kettlebell to the rack position: elbow tucked, bell resting on the forearm at shoulder height
  • Press the kettlebell straight overhead until the arm is fully locked out, keeping the wrist neutral
  • Keep your torso strictly upright — do not lean to the opposite side to assist the press
  • Lower the kettlebell with control back to the rack position at shoulder height
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
