About this exercise

The kettlebell seated neutral grip shoulder press is performed with palms facing each other throughout the movement, which places the shoulder joint in a more natural alignment and reduces stress on the rotator cuff compared to a pronated grip. Performing the press from a seated position removes lower body drive and isolates the deltoids and triceps.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on an adjustable bench set to vertical or near-vertical, holding a kettlebell in each hand at shoulder height with palms facing each other
  • Brace your core and keep your back flat against the bench
  • Press the kettlebells straight up overhead until your arms are fully extended without locking out forcefully
  • Keep the neutral (palms-in) grip throughout the entire pressing motion
  • Lower the kettlebells in a controlled manner back to shoulder height
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
