About this exercise

The kettlebell prone rear delt swing is performed lying face down on an incline bench, swinging the kettlebells outward in a wide arc to target the rear deltoids and upper trapezius. The controlled swinging motion provides dynamic stimulus to the posterior shoulder muscles that complements heavier static row work.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a low incline and lie face down with your chest on the pad
  • Hold a kettlebell in each hand with arms hanging straight down, palms facing each other
  • Swing both kettlebells outward and upward in a wide arc, leading with the rear delts
  • Allow a brief pause when the arms are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Lower the kettlebells slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
