About this exercise

The kettlebell overhead triceps extension is an isolation exercise that targets the long head of the triceps by extending the arms from a bent overhead position. Holding a kettlebell with both hands, you lower the weight behind your head and press it back up, providing a deep stretch at the bottom. It builds arm mass and improves shoulder stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hold a kettlebell with both hands, gripping the bell portion
  • Press the kettlebell overhead until your arms are fully extended, elbows close to your head
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary, slowly lower the kettlebell behind your head until your elbows reach roughly 90 degrees
  • Pause briefly at the bottom, then extend your elbows to press the kettlebell back to the starting position
  • Keep your core braced and avoid flaring your elbows throughout the movement
