About this exercise

The kettlebell overhead crunch on a stability ball is a weighted core exercise that increases the resistance and range of motion of a standard crunch. Holding a kettlebell overhead while performing the crunch on a ball extends the range of trunk flexion, placing a greater stretch and load on the abdominals compared to a floor crunch.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a stability ball, then walk your feet forward until your lower back is supported on the ball and your torso is slightly reclined
  • Hold a kettlebell by the handle with both hands and extend your arms overhead
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor and hips at knee height
  • Exhale and curl your torso upward, bringing your chest toward your knees while keeping the kettlebell extended overhead
  • Squeeze your abs at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower back down, allowing your back to arch over the ball for a full stretch
  • Maintain control throughout and avoid using momentum
