About this exercise

The kettlebell one arm jerk is an explosive overhead exercise performed from the rack position. A quick dip and drive from the legs generates momentum, allowing you to press the kettlebell overhead with less shoulder fatigue than a strict press — making it ideal for high-rep strength-endurance work.

How to Perform

  • Hold the kettlebell in the rack position at one shoulder with your elbow tucked against your torso
  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, core braced
  • Perform a short, sharp dip by bending the knees slightly
  • Immediately drive upward through the legs and hips, using the momentum to push the kettlebell overhead
  • Drop slightly under the kettlebell and lock your arm out fully overhead
  • Stand tall to complete the rep, then lower the kettlebell back to the rack position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
