About this exercise

The kettlebell one arm clean and jerk is a full-body power exercise that combines a single-arm clean to the rack position with an explosive overhead jerk. It develops total-body explosiveness, shoulder stability, and conditioning, and is a staple in kettlebell sport competition.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and the kettlebell on the floor in front of you
  • Hinge at the hips, grip the kettlebell, and swing it back between your legs
  • Drive your hips forward explosively to clean the kettlebell to the rack position at your shoulder
  • Dip slightly at the knees, then drive upward to press the kettlebell overhead while dropping under it
  • Lock out your arm fully overhead, legs straight, in the jerk finish position
  • Lower the kettlebell back to the rack position, then swing it back down to the hang and repeat
