About this exercise

The kettlebell lying rear delt row is performed lying prone on an incline bench, rowing the kettlebells in a wide arc to target the rear deltoids and upper back. The fixed body position eliminates torso sway and isolates the posterior shoulder muscles effectively.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a low incline (30–45 degrees) and lie face down with your chest on the pad
  • Hold a kettlebell in each hand, arms hanging straight down beneath your shoulders
  • Row both kettlebells upward and outward with your elbows flaring wide, leading with the rear delts
  • Squeeze the rear deltoids at the top of the movement, elbows at or above shoulder height
  • Lower the kettlebells slowly back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
