About this exercise

The Kettlebell Lying on Floor Rear Delt Raise is a unilateral isolation exercise performed lying on one side on the floor, targeting the posterior deltoid with a controlled lateral raise. The floor position provides stability and removes momentum, making it particularly effective for building rear shoulder strength and correcting shoulder imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on the floor with your body in a straight line, bottom arm extended or resting under your head for support
  • Hold a kettlebell in the top hand with the arm resting in front of your hip, elbow slightly bent
  • Raise the kettlebell upward in a wide arc, keeping the elbow soft, until your arm is roughly perpendicular to the floor
  • Squeeze the rear deltoid at the top of the movement
  • Lower the kettlebell slowly back to the starting position without resting it on the floor
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch sides
