About this exercise

The kettlebell kickstand one leg deadlift is a unilateral hip-hinge exercise where one foot is placed slightly behind the other as a kickstand for balance, allowing you to load one side heavily while building single-leg stability. It develops the hamstrings and glutes independently, exposing and correcting side-to-side strength imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Stand with a kettlebell in one or both hands, the working leg forward and the opposite foot lightly placed behind as a kickstand
  • Shift most of your weight to the front (working) leg
  • Hinge forward at the hip, pushing the hips back as the kettlebell travels toward the floor
  • Keep your back flat and the kettlebell close to your front leg throughout the descent
  • Lower until you feel a strong stretch in the working hamstring, keeping hips level
  • Drive through the heel of the front foot to stand back up, squeezing the glute at the top
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
