About this exercise

A single-leg strength exercise where a kettlebell is held in the hand on the same side as the lunging leg (ipsilateral loading), shifting the balance challenge inward and training lateral trunk stability alongside the quadriceps and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell in one hand at your side (e.g., kettlebell in the right hand)
  • Step the same-side leg (right leg) straight back and lower your rear knee toward the floor
  • Keep your front shin vertical, chest tall, and core braced throughout the descent
  • Pause when your rear knee is just above the floor
  • Drive through the heel of your front foot to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs and the kettlebell hand
