About this exercise

A single-leg strength exercise where a kettlebell is held in the hand opposite to the lunging leg (contralateral loading), increasing the lateral stability demand on the hip abductors and core while targeting the quadriceps and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell in one hand at your side (e.g., kettlebell in the right hand)
  • Step the opposite leg (left leg) straight back and lower your rear knee toward the floor
  • Keep your front shin vertical, chest tall, and core braced throughout the descent
  • Pause when your rear knee is just above the floor
  • Drive through the heel of your front foot to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs and the kettlebell hand
