About this exercise

The kettlebell clean grip reverse lunge is a unilateral lower-body exercise where one or two kettlebells are held in the racked (clean) position while stepping backward into a lunge. The clean grip position adds an anti-rotation core demand and keeps the torso upright, making this an effective combination of leg and core strength work.

How to Perform

  • Clean one or two kettlebells to the racked position (bells resting on the forearms, elbows tucked close to the body)
  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and core braced
  • Step one foot backward and lower your back knee toward the floor, keeping the front shin vertical
  • Lower until both knees form approximately 90-degree angles
  • Push through the front heel to return to the standing position
  • Keep your torso upright and avoid letting the kettlebells pull you forward
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs
