About this exercise

The kettlebell bent-over alternate twist row is a dynamic pulling exercise that combines a single-arm row with a torso rotation at the top of each rep. The twisting motion activates the obliques and thoracic rotators while the row targets the lats and biceps, making this a functional movement that builds back strength and rotational core power. Alternating arms keeps the workout balanced and increases time under tension.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding a kettlebell in each hand, or one kettlebell per rep
  • Hinge forward at the hips to roughly 45 degrees, keeping your back flat and core engaged
  • Let the kettlebells hang at arm's length below your chest
  • Row one kettlebell up toward your hip by driving your elbow back, then rotate your torso toward that side at the top
  • Hold briefly, then lower the kettlebell and rotate back to center
  • Immediately row the opposite kettlebell up and rotate to the other side
  • Continue alternating in a controlled rhythm, keeping your hips square and avoiding excessive swinging
