Kettlebell Bench Press

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Bench Press.

MediumMiddle chest

About this exercise

A flat bench press performed with kettlebells instead of a barbell or dumbbells. The offset centre of mass of the kettlebell demands greater wrist stability and grip control, adding an additional challenge to the classic chest press while effectively targeting the pectorals, triceps, and anterior deltoids.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a horizontal bench holding a kettlebell in each hand at chest level, handles pointing upward
  • Position the kettlebells at the sides of your mid chest with elbows bent at roughly 45 degrees
  • Press both kettlebells straight up until your arms are fully extended, keeping the handles stable
  • Hold briefly at the top with arms extended and wrists neutral
  • Lower the kettlebells slowly back to chest level under control
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor and your back in a natural position throughout
