About this exercise

The Kettlebell Good Morning is a hip hinge movement that strengthens the posterior chain, particularly the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. Holding a kettlebell at chest level or behind the neck, you hinge forward at the hips while keeping the spine neutral, then drive the hips forward to return upright.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a kettlebell at chest height or resting it behind your neck across the traps
  • Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement
  • Push your hips back and hinge forward until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor or until a stretch is felt in the hamstrings
  • Keep a slight bend in the knees and avoid rounding the lower back
  • Drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes to return to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
