About this exercise

A lower-body compound movement performed by stepping backward into a lunge while holding a kettlebell in each hand or goblet-style. The backward step reduces stress on the knee while keeping the quadriceps and glutes under constant tension throughout the range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell in each hand at your sides, feet hip-width apart
  • Keep your chest tall and core braced throughout the movement
  • Take a controlled step backward with one foot, lowering your rear knee toward the floor
  • Descend until your front thigh is roughly parallel to the floor and your rear knee hovers just above it
  • Drive through your front heel to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side or alternate legs each rep
