About this exercise

The kettlebell around head rotation, also known as the halo, is a shoulder mobility and stability drill in which you circle a kettlebell around your head in a controlled arc. It warms up the shoulder girdle, engages the upper traps, and improves thoracic mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hold a kettlebell by the horns (sides of the handle) at chest height
  • Begin rotating the kettlebell around your head in one direction, passing it behind your neck and back to the front
  • Keep your core braced and your elbows close to your head throughout the movement
  • Move the kettlebell in a smooth, controlled arc — do not rush or jerk
  • Complete the desired number of rotations in one direction, then reverse
