About this exercise

The jumping jack high knee combines the lateral arm and leg motion of a jumping jack with an alternating high-knee drive, elevating the heart rate and engaging the core and hip flexors simultaneously. It is an effective full-body cardio warm-up or conditioning drill.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and arms at your sides
  • Jump your feet out wide while raising your arms overhead, as in a standard jumping jack
  • Jump your feet back together and simultaneously drive one knee up toward your chest
  • Immediately jump out again with a new jumping jack motion
  • On the next return, drive the opposite knee up
  • Continue alternating high knees with each jumping jack repetition
  • Maintain an upright posture and a brisk, rhythmic pace throughout
