About this exercise

The Incline Twisting Sit-up is performed on a decline bench and combines the classic sit-up with a rotational component. The incline increases the range of motion while the twist activates the obliques alongside the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Secure your feet at the top of an incline sit-up bench and lie back with hands behind or across your chest
  • Engage your core and begin curling your torso upward
  • As you rise, rotate your upper body so that one elbow moves toward the opposite knee
  • Reach the full rotation at the top of the sit-up
  • Slowly lower yourself back to the starting position with control
  • Alternate the direction of the twist on each repetition
