Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Incline Pigeon Stretch.

EasyGlutes

About this exercise

A hip-opening stretch based on the yoga pigeon pose, performed with the front leg elevated on an incline surface such as a bench or box. The elevated surface increases the stretch intensity on the glutes and external hip rotators without requiring full floor flexibility.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing an incline bench or elevated surface set at a comfortable height
  • Place your right shin horizontally across the surface so your knee is near the edge and your foot hangs off the other side
  • Flex your right foot to protect the knee joint
  • Lean your torso gently forward toward your shin to deepen the glute stretch
  • Keep your hips square and avoid letting one hip drop
  • Hold the position for the prescribed duration, breathing deeply
  • Switch legs and repeat on the other side
