About this exercise

The Incline Leg Hip Raise is a core exercise performed on a declined sit-up bench with straight legs. Gravity increases the challenge as you raise your legs and curl your hips upward, placing intense demand on the lower abs.

How to Perform

  • Lie back on an incline bench with your head at the higher end, gripping the top edge for support
  • Extend your legs straight and hold them together
  • Brace your core and raise your straight legs upward to vertical
  • From that position, posteriorly tilt your pelvis to lift your hips off the bench
  • Hold briefly at the top, squeezing the abs
  • Slowly lower your hips, then your legs, back to the starting position
  • Keep the movement controlled — avoid dropping the legs with momentum
