EasyLower back

About this exercise

A classic posterior chain exercise performed on a hyperextension bench that strengthens the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. By hinging at the hips under bodyweight load, it improves spinal erector strength and overall posterior chain stability.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the hyperextension bench so the pad sits just below your hips
  • Hook your feet under the footrests and cross your arms over your chest or place your hands behind your head
  • Lower your torso toward the floor in a controlled arc until you feel a stretch in the hamstrings
  • Contract your glutes and lower back muscles to raise your torso back to horizontal
  • Do not hyperextend past a neutral spine at the top
  • Repeat with deliberate, controlled movement

About the Back Extension

The Back Extension is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
