About this exercise

The Hundred is a classic Pilates exercise that builds deep core endurance and breathing coordination by holding a challenging abdominal curl position while pumping the arms in small, rapid strokes for 100 counts. The sustained isometric hold combined with rhythmic breathing develops stability throughout the entire anterior chain.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back, draw your knees to your chest and then extend the legs to a 45-degree angle (or higher for less challenge)
  • Curl the head and upper shoulders off the mat so the shoulder blades are lifted, reaching both arms long beside your hips
  • Begin pumping the arms up and down in small, sharp strokes of about 15–20 cm
  • Inhale for 5 pumps, then exhale for 5 pumps, counting each pump until you reach 100
  • Keep the lower back pressed into the mat and avoid letting the neck strain
  • Lower the legs and head back down gently after completing all 100 pumps

About the Pilates Hundred

The Pilates Hundred is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
