About this exercise

The high plank hip tap is a core stability exercise performed from a push-up position where you rotate your hips side to side, tapping each hip toward the floor while keeping your shoulders square. It trains the obliques, deep core, and anti-rotation stability, making it an effective bodyweight waist exercise.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank (push-up) position with hands directly under shoulders and body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and keep your hips roughly level
  • Rotate your hips to the right, lowering your right hip toward the floor without letting it touch
  • Return your hips to the center and immediately rotate to the left, lowering your left hip toward the floor
  • Keep your shoulders square and your upper body as still as possible throughout
  • Continue alternating sides in a controlled, rhythmic motion for the desired number of reps
