About this exercise

A standing lunge stretch with the rear knee lifted off the ground and the torso upright, creating a deep stretch through the hip flexors and quadriceps of the back leg while building stability and mobility in the hips.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet together, then step one foot forward into a wide lunge stance
  • Lower your hips until your front thigh is roughly parallel to the floor, keeping the rear knee elevated off the ground
  • Keep your torso upright and your front knee directly above your front ankle
  • Press your rear heel back to intensify the hip flexor stretch
  • Hold the position for the desired duration, breathing steadily
  • Return to standing and repeat on the other side
