About this exercise

High Knee to Butt Kick is a cardio warm-up drill that combines two classic movements in sequence: driving the knee up toward the chest, then flicking the heel up toward the glutes. It elevates heart rate, activates the hip flexors and hamstrings, and improves running mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Drive your right knee up toward your chest while pumping your left arm forward
  • As you lower the right foot, immediately kick your right heel up toward your glutes
  • Continue alternating between high knee and butt kick on the same leg before switching
